PSNS & IMF is located near Seattle, Washington and is operated by the United Sates Navy to overhaul, modernize, and maintain naval vessels such as aircraft carriers and submarines. The majority of the employees, including approximately 2,000 engineers, are civilian. Engineers at PSNS & IMF work on projects involving testing, vibration analysis, maintenance, overhaul, repair, and modernization of combat systems, communication equipment, navigation systems, propulsion systems, ship structures, and nuclear reactor plants. The Shipyard accomplishes over 2 million man-days of work at a cost of over $2 billion dollars a year in maintenance and repair of the Navy’s submarine force and carrier fleet.
