Cedars-Sinai Center for Outcomes Research and Education

About Cedars-Sinai Center for Outcomes Research and Education

The Cedars-Sinai Center for Outcomes Research and Education (CS-CORE) is a group of academicians that supports high quality research efforts using a health services research model. Members of the center have published extensively in the fields of healthcare quality measurements, patient-reported outcome (PRO) development, healthcare decision making, health economics and digital health sciences.

CS-CORE maintains a balance between clinical physicians with training in health services research, and rigorously trained methodologists with expertise across a wide range of techniques. This allows the center to apply advanced analytic techniques to practical, clinically oriented research projects that ultimately revolve around patients and their perspectives.

Members of CS-CORE routinely interact with social scientists, epidemiologists, health economists, psychometricians, biostatisticians, computer scientists, engineers and physicians focused in multiple medical specialties. CS-CORE scientists work closely across Cedars-Sinai and partner with a vibrant external community of university, government and healthcare institutions. This model positions CS-CORE to carry out high-level research in an efficient and effective manner across a broad spectrum of topics.

In addition to its focus on traditional health services research techniques, CS-CORE is also developing new technological innovations to expand care outside of the provider visit. Using patient-provider electronic portals to support clinical decision-making in electronic health records, social media as a clinical tool and a range of wearable biosensors to track physiology remotely and in real time, the center’s research is providing powerful methods to understand patients.

Reviews

Research Intern

May 2018 - May 2019 Los Angeles, CA
“This internship is perfect for anyone looking to get their feet wet in research or healthcare. This was one of my very first research experiences. The position is very hands on as I compiled literature reviews, reviewed medical charts, and helped patients use new digital health tools. I had regular discussions with the PI and study staff about the progress of projects I was a part of. There are also opportunities to start your own personal projects if you take the initiative. Research opportunities like this one are sparse for undergraduates - most labs a) have you do mindless data entry for hours and b) are unpaid. This internship allows you to do meaningful work that can jumpstart your career. It helped me secure positions at competitive labs even outside of healthcare.”
