Dow

Improvement Engineer Co-op

May - August 2022 • Lake Jackson, TX

What I liked

Did actual engineering work around projects with significant monetary value for the company. Also toured some of the cooler stuff around the company to maybe end up working on in the future.

What I wish was different

More actual projects to do, I finished my stuff faster than they anticipated and then they loaded me up with grunt work. The work was important, it just was tedious and no one really wanted to do it so they give it to the intern

Advice

If you are interested in something you see your mentor/supervisor working on, ask to work on it and they will probably give you more responsibility in that area. This way you will enjoy your work a lot more

What I wish was different

I wish that I was given more demanding challenges to solve, although the things I did were not exactly easy.

Production Engineering Intern

May - August 2022 • Midland, MI

What I liked

Everyone, even in different work areas, was very open to questions. 1:1s with everyone in my department were required, and everyone I reached out to in different departments was open to discussing their work with me. My manager had a number of tasks in different areas of the plant for me to work on. I was able to form a lot of great relationships with other interns and my department. The internship program facilitates this well.

What I wish was different

My plant was small and a bit isolated, but the other aspects of the internship made up for this. The role was not for me in the end, but I had a good experience.

Advice

Internships are the time to learn as much as you can about different roles. Develop good relationships with all your coworkers and put yourself out there- they will be teach you and guide you through mistakes.
