What I liked

I enjoyed the custom hours I can make because it is a self employed business.

What I wish was different

Advice

worry about your own trucking, because everyone will have a problem whether you haul too much or too little.

Nanny

May 2017 - August 2019 • Naperville, IL

What I liked

The children were so sweet to me. I enjoyed doing free fun things with them all summer. E.g we went to the pool, the movies, out to eat, etc. I loved going to all their soccer games and supporting them through everything. The older child had just entered middle school and he needed advise on what to do about the girl he liked. I love that he came to me over his parents because we had a strong bond. I felt like I was their older sister.

What I wish was different

I wish the parents did not have differing ideas about the daily schedule. E.g the mom wanted me to take them to the library, the dad wanted me to take them to a water park. The two were married, but did not communicate and it left me in lots of difficult situations.

Advice

Nanning allows you to be a role model to children that didnt even know they needed you. You become apart of the family and begin to love them all. You adapt to their cultural values and eat their cultural food. I recommend being a nanny to out of high school students as a summer full time job. It is easy and pays well.

Nanny

March 2018 - August 2019 • The Woodlands, TX

What I liked

I have never had a more challenging or more rewarding job! I know I made a huge impact in my girls lives

What I wish was different

The family was somewhat unstable which led to the job being challenging and emotionally demanding. I was a returning summer nanny and fought for a raise, but i was still underpaid for the area and the work i was doing. i went back because it was still more than my job in waco and i felt like the kids needed me.

Advice

go into any babysitting/nanny job knowing your worth and having a fixed rate. Don’t leave it up to the family, (unless they want to give you more), because in my experience, they are looking for the least amount to pay. i know this isn’t the case with every family so find the family that’s the best fit for you.

Nanny

May - August 2019 • Austin, TX

What I liked

I liked how flexible the schedule was and the kids were easy to handle and interact with!

What I wish was different

Wish it would’ve been more organized in terms of what the plan was to do with the kids each day, and them also know what we’re doing.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to speak up, communicate, and do things the way you need them to be rather than allowing others to determine how things work.

Nanny

May - August 2019 • Lexington, KY

What I liked

I liked being able to work directly with a family.

What I wish was different

I hoped that I would be able to have more freedom in taking time off. There weren't other people to replace me if I wasn't there, so it left me unable to spend much time traveling during the summer.

Advice

I would tell people to make sure that they are doing something they enjoy (at least a little bit). I put myself in a position that left me unable to do a lot of things that I enjoy because of the timing of the job.
