Motor Carrier Safety Specialists duties include providing routine and technical assistance to state and local officers, industry officials and the general public; preparing reports utilizing standard and specialized computer software; conducting commercial driver/vehicle inspections; conducting routine compliance reviews of interstate motor carriers and HM shippers; conducting investigations; determining compliance with federal safety and hazardous material regulations and preparing enforcement reports for civil forfeiture proceedings. Specialists provide depositions and testimony on behalf of the agency in legal proceedings testifying on procedures, policies and methods utilized in investigations. These positions may require overnight travel of 2-3 weeks per month and may be required to work some irregular hours.
