Forest Foundation was started by a family from Boxford, Massachusetts in 1993. It is located in the woods, thus its name. While a family foundation, it has always employed a paid executive director and has been run as a professional organization. Originally a grant making foundation focused on new, small, and emerging non-profits supporting underserved youth and families in Essex County, Massachusetts, it has evolved into a regional grant maker with a sharp focus on the leadership development of undergraduate college students in the non-profit sector. We currently support 50 summer non-profit internships and make over 30 regional grants to smaller non-profits.
