Financial Management Program Intern

June - August 2018 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed experiencing what it was like to work for a big company. This was my first professional experience and I thought it was a great one, but it was a very quick 10 weeks and wish I was working a little longer. By the time I was comfortable with what I was doing it was time to leave.

What I wish was different

I wish I had known more about the program before I had started.

Advice

Ask questions and get to know your boss and other workers above you. Get involved with the other interns early, it was a fast 10 weeks but very fun.

Infra-Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

I loved the environment and the people, as well as making your internship your own. I was not walked through step-by-step on my tasks. I had to reach out to people, make jobs, make things for me to do. The effort you put in, is the experience you get out. Of course, I needed help at first, as I knew nothing. I needed to be given tasks to begin. But, after that, it was all on me to make it the experience I wanted it to be.

What I wish was different

I wish that the on-boarding process had been smoother. It was all great until the first day. After the first day, I felt like I had been dropped off and told to figure it out. It was hard to get help from those around me, since they were busy with their own jobs. It also took 3 weeks to finally get all the accesses I needed to do my job, which gave me 3 weeks of trying to figure out what I could do and make the most of my time.

Advice

People skills are key. Make sure you get to know all the people you are working with, and get to know them outside of just their job titles. Also, in my situation, I was thrown into a shop with both hourly and salary shop floor workers. As an intern, I fell between those two. I was doing and gaining experience for a salary position, but being paid at an hourly rate. Get to know both sides of the equation. The more you lead, the more you serve.
