Audit Intern

June - August 2019 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

I loved the culture that Grant Thornton provides. The people I worked with made working truly enjoyable and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to work with the Philadelphia office.

What I wish was different

There wasn't much to critique because the time I worked at Grant Thornton was great. There were intern events every Friday which was great because we could talk to other people in the other service lines.

Advice

I would advise you to have fun and make those relationships with the associates and seniors. Really take on their culture, that is the best way that you'll get an idea of how the company would be if you worked full time.

Attest Services Intern

June - August 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

The culture of the company was very welcoming and friendly. I got to know a ton of people and enjoyed working the team I had. They treated me as if I was an associate, which allowed me to have direct contact with the clients and get real expose and insight as to what working for Grant Thornton is really like.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship could have gone longer than 8 weeks

Advice

When interviewing with multiple companies, don't worry so much about which job is the perfect match for you, look more for what culture seems to fit best with you as a person.

Audit Intern

May - August 2018 • Baltimore, MD

What I liked

A small and personal office with highly competent senior associates and managers. During the summer I was able to learn many different testing procedures and work with individuals/teams who took the time to explain each process to me. I was also surprised to see how engaged the partners were with the rest of the office- especially the interns.

What I wish was different

Audit and tax offer very different lifestyles when it comes to public accounting. The travel associated with audit was tiresome and not for me... although I enjoyed the work, I'll be returning to GT this spring to undergo a tax internship.

Advice

Network early in your college career. My relationship with the GT Baltimore office began in the beginning of my sophomore year. Through this connection, I'll have the convenience of having both an audit and tax internship by the time I graduate and a full-time position waiting for me next fall.

Accountant

October 2018 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I really like the fast paced enviornment. The smaller feel of the firm makes it feel like a community. I aslo like that we have a global reach and work closely with other offices in the western region .

What I wish was different

I wish the start date had been a little earlier. I wish also that I had realized how how of a turniver rate accounting firms have.

Advice

Don't base you decison based on the people in the firm. Base it on the culture and resources the firm has to offer. Also if at all possible, I highly recommend interning at more then one firm.

Public Sector Advisory Intern

June 2017 - August 2018 • Alexandria, VA

What I liked

It was a very hands-on internship that threw me right into a role on a team. People were fantastic. Work was moderately interesting

What I wish was different

As a developer, I wish there were some more experienced members on the team I could have directly learned from. Developer's weren't onsite with me, so it made communication a bit difficult.

Advice

Find ways you can make an impact right off the jump.

What I wish was different

Audit Intern

June - August 2018 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

Experience hands-on auditing work. Learning the process

What I wish was different

The work environment was kind of cold at times. I have had internships where at least one-two people who consistently checked on how I was progressing and adjusting to the environment. It wasn't the same here.

Advice

I used this opportunity to evaluate what type of environment I want to be in. I also paid close attention to performance evaluations to see if there was anything professionally, or skillfully, to improve.

Summer Advisory Intern

June - August 2017 • Shanghai, China

What I liked

I worked in a Chinese corporate office environment which was very exciting and interesting. One of my main goals in going to China was to improve my Chinese in different contexts outside the classroom. Working at Grant Thornton enabled me to practice in a professional business environment which was a great opportunity. The Shanghai financial district is also incredibly unique and demonstrated what living and working in a city would be like after college.

What I wish was different

I wish I was more involved in financial operations.

Advice

Your internship is what you make of it. Come in with certain goals and make sure you portray these to your supervisor prior to the start of your internship. Do not be afraid to ask if you can work on different things within the firm, it cannot hurt and shows initiative.
