Investor Outreach Intern

May - July 2020 • Shanghai, China

What I liked

Paragon Partners Asia gives a lot of responsibility to interns, from editing and designing investment memorandums to directly reaching out to potential investors. I especially enjoyed collaborating with other interns in teams to come up with creative ways to format investment materials, develop financial models and contact prospective investors. As someone with limited investment experience, the morning training sessions were extremely educational and taught me an incredible amount about the real estate industry.

What I wish was different

The U.S.-China time difference was difficult.

Advice

To make the most of this internship, it is important to constantly be in communication with your peers and advisors. If you are confused about a task or just want to learn more about real estate, make sure to speak up and ask lots of questions. The more you demonstrate curiosity and commitment, the more likely it is that you will be given high-level work as well as a leadership role.

Investment Outreach Intern

May - July 2020 • Shanghai, People's Republic of China

What I liked

The employer gave us professional trainings 3-4 times a week. The training content mainly talked about the investment momentum memorandum, financial modeling and investor outreach. In these three months, I learned many experimental things that I could not get in the traditional classroom. I had a comprehensive understanding about the Chinese Real Estate Investment industry.

What I wish was different

I would say more specific task assignment and more time(like 1 or 2days) for the new intern to handover the work from the leader. I think the understanding the overall company structure(like different group)and current business might be good for the interns to start their works.

Advice

I learned how to build up a professional investment document and financial model during my internship. I started from zero and faced lots of hurdles during these three months. My employer told me that people should always be super critical and pursuing perfection on their work. I'll remember this saying forever. This is what we need to ask ourselves in daily work.

Investor Outreach Intern

May - August 2020 • Shanghai, People's Republic of China

What I liked

I greatly enjoyed the fact that Paragon Partners Asia enabled me as an intern to work directly on projects that would be seen by potential investors. It was a very hands on experience, and my team and I had to utilize strong communication skills in order to create various investment memorandums and financial models. I also learned effective strategies that aid in reaching out to potential investors. I was able to augment an immense amount of knowledge and skills that I did not possess prior to this experience, that will be beneficial to carry with me throughout my professional career.

What I wish was different

I wish that my time zone aligned better with the time in China as this sometimes led to some communication issues, but other than that I wouldn't change a thing about this internship.

Advice

I cannot stress enough how important attention to detail is while taking part in this experience. It took my team and I some time to realize that if even a small part of your investment memorandum is incorrect or hard to understand, potential investors could be deterred from an investment, which in turn hinders the success of Paragon Partners Asia.
