Camp Counselor for Special Needs Children

June - August 2018 • Fredonia, WI

What I liked

I loved working with the children one on one and learning about what they enjoy to do and what makes them happy. It was a learning experience everyday with every child I worked with. It was so special to share the connections I had with the children and by the end of summer, I felt as if I had known these kids since they were born. I loved seeing them come into contact with difficult situations and grow from each new experience. I have a special place in my heart for every single one of them.

What I wish was different

I do wish that the activities were more adapted to the specific child and there was better organization over-all.

Advice

A piece of advice id share that I took away from this experience is how important it is to know how to have patience while still being stern. It's important to demand the respect you deserve in any workplace but it is especially important with children. The connection you make when you both understand and respect each other is unbreakable.
