Hume Christian Camps

General Store Clerk

June - August 2018 • Hume, CA

What I liked

I loved working at Hume Lake! The community was absolutely amazing, and it is so beautiful living in the mountains. I loved that I got to serve the Lord while having fun. The connections that I made will not go away, and I have made really great friends through Hume.

What I wish was different

I would love to have had another day off a week, I felt like I worked a lot, and there were times I wanted to go explore. The schedule was very strict. I wish I could have spent more time with campers as well, but I understand that that was not in my job description!

Advice

I would say that you should just go. If you feel the Lord calling you, do it. I showed up not knowing anyone, and I had never been to Hume before. I ended up making great friends and was super comfortable after only a few days.

Hume Lake Summer Staff

June - August 2019 • Hume, CA

What I liked

It was a warm and welcoming environment. I also got to spend the entire summer at a beautiful place where I was encouraged to grow and develop in my faith. There is no cell phone service there, so I got to have 11 weeks of freedom from my phone and some of the many difficulties it brings. I was also pushed and stretched by my fellow employees as well as my bosses and made life long friends through this job. I also got to work with children ages 0-12, which is what I want to do in my future career.

What I wish was different

I can honestly say that I wish nothing was different. The two summers that I have spent at Hume Lake have been the best time of my entire life.

Advice

Do it! I was so scared to go to a place where I did not know a single person and not have any of my family around or even a phone call away. But I pushed myself to take a leap of faith and it turned out to be the best decision of my life. If you are scared to do a job or an interview. Just do it, because you never know where it may take you. This is the perfect time in our lives to step out and do something out of our comfort zone.

Security Guard Supervisor

May - August 2019 • Hume, CA

What I liked

I loved working in an environment which was focused on teaching the gospel message and loving others. Likewise, the job itself created an opportunity to interact with guests of the institution. Finally, the people who I worked for/with are now some of my closest friends.

What I wish was different

Working at the camp means having to live there throughout the summer, and the living arrangements are a little tight, so it would have been nice to have better living arrangements. Also, the food provided could be improved as well.

Advice

Being able to work at this camp during the summer while I am in collage was a huge blessing. My experiences during this time were some that have greatly impacted my life for the better. My advice would be to take advantage of these kind of opportunities while you can. It may not be working at a summer camp, but do not let opportunities pass because they are only there for a time.

The Head Chef was amazing to work under. The job was very much understood to be a camp-esque summer job, and there is a quality of life that goes with it.

What I wish was different

Personal life and work life are entirely blended together.

Advice

This job is highly dependent on coworker environment.
