Associate

June 2019 • Austin, TX

What I liked

I liked that I was paid well and got to save up money for school and move in costs. The people were nice and friendly to me, which made the experience of the fast food industry both inviting and safe.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had more opportunities to learn about how to do my job better. The culture there was very hierarchical, in the sense that the higher levels were adamant about how to succeed.

Advice

I would say that in regards to working in the fast food industry, there should be no shame. In-N-Out has developed a system in which it is easy for their associates to learn efficiently and to be able to level up within the business. The pay is enough to which it puts yourself on a higher pay grade than other fast food establishments. There should also be no shame in working with this types of businesses, because at the end of the day, we do what we have to do for our better interests.

What I wish was different

The morale of our store right now isn't fully functional right now, but our store relationships are always a work in progress.

Advice

You need to quickly find out what you're doing if you are ever confused about what's going on in the kitchen - everyone needs to be on the same page for things to run smoothly.

Associate Trainer

November 2015 • Riverdale, UT

What I liked

The work atmosphere is great because everyone welcomes you in as a friend, the hours are very flexible for students, and the pay isn’t too bad considering it’s fast food and you don’t have a degree.

What I wish was different

An earlier attitude adjustment on my part.

Advice

Just understand that sometimes you’re going to stay over a little later than expected because of business and that people aren’t perfect so things aren’t always going to go as you want them to.

Associate

April 2016 - August 2018 • Roseville, CA

What I liked

I love the community and support that was shared in the workplace. It was a family atmosphere and we loved each other like brothers and sisters. I also loved how fast-paced the job was because it kept me busy and driven at work.

What I wish was different

Some of the employees always came to work with a negative attitude, which made it really hard for me to want to be around them and work with them. Sometimes, I would get so frustrated that I would just have to walk away and relax for a minute in the back room.

Advice

Make the most of you summer and go into everything with a positive attitude and an open mind. Everyone's experience will be different but if you have a good attitude, only good things will come out of your summer.
