What I liked

The crew and leadership. Kind and respectable towards me and others. Hardworking, but had fun.

What I wish was different

It was my first over-night job so it was difficult to change my daily routine. Wish i had done something different for the summer for work.

Advice

10 pm to 6 am is not easy. Be prepared to change your daily schedule entirely to work night shifts.

Clicklist Attendant

June 2017 - August 2019 • Pinckney, MI

What I liked

I liked the people I worked with in my department and in the store.

What I wish was different

Manager employee communication. Pay increase for the amount of hard work and emotional stress I was put through. Never enough people working due to hour decrease my corporate.

Advice

I personally would not work for Kroger as a company in general. Many of the stress I had was due to company related things and not just store related things.

May - July 2022 • Springboro, OH

What I liked

Experience working with customers, staff, and new situations

What I wish was different

I wish some of the managers were more understanding when a cashier was dizzy or not feeling well after having pulled carts outside in 90 degree heat

Advice

As long as you put a smile on your face and communicate with your customers and coworkers, things can go a lot smoother rather than getting upset and raising your voice.

Store Management Intern

June - August 2018 • Novi, MI

What I liked

Kroger gave us a unique experience in that we were able to see the grocery retail industry from all viewpoints. As an intern, I had the opportunity to see a variety of different jobs available at Kroger, both inside and outside of the store. Additionally, the internship gave me the ability to improve my managerial and communication skills.

What I wish was different

I think it would have been beneficial to spend some time with the Division's Executive Team, and learn how they expect a store to be set up, or how they spend their days.

Advice

It's important to be flexible and be able to adapt. In retail, there's no telling what can happen on any given day, and employees will remember how you responded and the actions you took to resolve any issues or problems around the store.

Deli Clerk

June - August 2018 • Troy, MI

What I liked

I really enjoyed the work atmosphere, the employees and managers were all very kind and supportive. It was a great job that I think gave me a chance to develop my customer service and communication skills more.

What I wish was different

When I applied to Kroger, I interviewed right away and was called back and offered a job within a few days. However, I had to come in to fill out paperwork on different days and it took two weeks to have all of my information finalized and start working there. As it was a summer job, every week counted for me, and I wish I would have been able to start working sooner.

Advice

For incoming college students in particular, the union Kroger is a part of offers free college classes. It is only with one particular community college, and employees are encouraged to finish one of the programs through that community college for a degree. It was the first job I had entered where they had benefits for students so I would encourage other students to research jobs that offer benefits for college students, because there are many out there.

Corporate Affairs Intern

July - August 2018 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

I appreciated the opportunity to observe workplace culture and how professionals conduct themselves and interact with one another. By experiencing the realities of a professional workforce, I now have a better sense of how to act in such a setting. I also had a lot of opportunities to try new things that helped me challenge myself. I had to take on certain projects that I had no idea how to do and I was able to learn and grow from these experiences.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have attended more Intern Events that were offered. My internship started late so I missed a bunch of opportunities offered.

Advice

Networking is so important so connect with as many people as you can!
