Guest Sercive Coworker

August 2016 • Kimberly, WI

What I liked

Working with customers

What I wish was different

I wish I wasn't put into the kitchen when I first got there. I was in the kitchen for over a year straight and I never really got to know my team until I moved out front. I also didn't know register for 1.5 years which was a struggle.

Retail Co-Worker

May - August 2018 • Verona, WI

What I liked

I was able to be in a familiar environment since this has been my recurring job for the last few years and I was able to add on responsibilities. The skills I learned all applied to my current job and I felt I was able to grow as an employee and offer more to my job through having this internship opportunity.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more chances to practice what I learned from my internship.

Advice

If you take an internship through your current job, make sure that you work out a schedule on when to be able to apply the information you learn. I didn't not have specific days planned so there were times where I would have to practice new skills while juggling my current responsibilities on days were it would get consistently busy.

Treasury Intern

May - August 2018 • Lacrosse, WI

What I liked

What I wish was different

I wish that there was more structure to the internship. It was very project orientated so there was a lot of down time waiting on a co-worker to finish up something else so you could progress.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask what you can improve on!

Advice

It is important to get your foot in the door at Kwik Trip. Find someone that works there or maybe apply to a position you wouldn't normally. Knowing someone at the company is super important. What helped me get the job before was connecting with an emplooyee that spoke at an AMA Alumni pannel.

Guest Service Employee

July 2017 • St. Peter, MN

What I liked

It is a fast pace job with opportunity for growth and rises. Very interactive, as I was put on register many times, some heavy lifting and hard work to keep up with food demands while maintaining low waste.

What I wish was different

Ordering for the store became troublesome as people moved from the store location and we were constantly out of some sort of food. As well as training for new people let a lot to be desired.

Advice

Be prepared to be put in odd situations and pushed out of your comfort zone, but that's how one moves on in commercial retail. Do not let bad experiences ruin your work day.
