Systems Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Camden, NJ

What I liked

Everyone was super friendly and supportive. Coworkers would make sure to include me in their meetings and projects. I felt like I actually did work that helped the projects and I learned a lot from the experience.

What I wish was different

I wish it was located in a different area. I never felt unsafe but some of the neighboring streets to the facility are very run down.

Advice

Ask as many questions as you can and offer assistance in any way possible.

IT Intern

May - August 2019 • Melbourne, FL

What I liked

L3Harris is a growing company that looks to challenge their interns through interactive and engaging projects that make a difference. The work is enjoyable with the location being an added bonus. With a wide variety of activities available to participate in, there is always something to do.

What I wish was different

The onboarding process and housing arrangements could be improved. Many interns felt delayed in beginning work due to the slow onboarding process. Housing options also felt limited with some interns having to relocate to a different location before the conclusion of their internship.

Advice

Take initiative, ask questions, and network with others. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved so make the most of it!

Mechanical Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • Ashburn, VA

What I liked

I liked the size of the company and the people I worked with. Everyone was friendly, and the work was diverse, allowing me to experience several different parts of mechanical design.

What I wish was different

I was not fond of the area or the intern program itself. Virginia in the summer is far too hot, and all the other interns were from the area so they did not want to explore. This company was a military contractor exclusively, so everything was way too secretive.

Talking with suppliers, the procurement team themselves

What I wish was different

More on hands training. They kind of trained me for a few weeks then left me fending for myself

Advice

Network, network, network. An internship is basically a 3 month interview. Be outgoing.

Electrical Engineer Co-op

December 2017 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

At the time that I obtained my position at L3 Technologies I didn't have very much experience in my field of study, and L3 Communication Systems West gave me much more experience. A lot of the things that I learned throughout school were solidified much more because of the great support that I've obtained from my team members.

What I wish was different

At this time, I don't have anything that I wish would have been different. I've gained a lot of experience and really enjoyed all of the great things that I've learned.

Advice

My greatest piece of advice is for fellow students to attend the career services events, because that is one of the main ways that I found out about L3 Technologies. Networking while in school is extremely important and I feel that you can get farther ahead than others by maintaining a strong network of contacts.
