Maple Ridge Memory Care

What I liked

The fact that it is such a happy environment when the disorders they manage can be so upsetting. Even when you see a resident regressing and needing more assistance, it somehow feels good to be there for people when they need it most. The coworkers are very respectful of each other and it really feels like a team. Even though I am a concierge member, I often work with care providers and activity directors to help the residents in the best way possible.

What I wish was different

I wish more people would work here. Perhaps if there was a longer training, not just focused on the disorders and how to help them, but that also highlighted ways to help yourself through the work. In other words, if a resident asks a question for the 20th time and begins to yell at you, you need to know how to manage patience and frustration in order to adequately care for the residents. This may be your job, but it is their home so their health and happiness is always the first priority.

Don't let preconceived notions hold you back. I used to be a little uncomfortable around older people with severe illnesses, and my entire perspective has changed since working here.
