Human Resources Intern

May 2020 • East Aurora, NY

What I liked

I enjoyed being a part of a team that was very supportive and accommodating of each other. Although we were mostly working from home over the summer, everyone still communicated on a daily basis and made sure that everyone was coping ok with the stress of Covid.

What I wish was different

I didn't have any poor experiences throughout the summer. Although I would have preferred to be working in-person with my coworkers, rather than online, I really enjoyed my experience and the knowledge I gained.

Advice

I would encourage others to not be afraid to step out of their comfort zone and to make the most of opportunities that present themselves.

May 2019 • Elma, NY

What I liked

The people treat you like a real employee, not just another intern. I'm given real projects often times instead of typical things interns would be given. They give you independence, and rely on you to get all of your work done.

Human Resources Intern

June 2018 • East Aurora, NY

What I liked

All of my coworkers are very open to helping me with any questions that I have on while working. My boss is also very understanding of my busy schedule as I am currently continuing my internship while in classes. This is very helpful as it allows me to continue my experience while attending college.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have shadowed a few employees in different job roles so that I can have a broader view of Human Resources. As I continue my internship, I hope to do this in the future.

Advice

I encourage all business students to apply for an internship over the summer. They are a great way to learn more about a field and to find out whether you enjoy a specific career path or not.

Everything. The job was great and they had me doing real engineering work. Everyone was very willing to help with any questions that I had.

What I wish was different

I wish that my laptop had been ready to go when I got there so I didn't have to wait a week or two for software to be ready.

Advice

Take the chance on moving across the country for a little. It was a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget. Working in the smaller office allowed me to work on more projects and be more involved than I ever though I could be.

Human Resources Intern

June - August 2019 • Torrance, CA

What I liked

This internship was an overall amazing experience. The valuable skills that I gained from this experience are some that I could have never learned in a classroom. Having the chance to work in California was incredible and my co-workers made everyday so amazing.

What I wish was different

The only thing that I would have changed about my internship was the timing. I wish I would have had more time to work with all of my co-workers because once I started getting real close with all of them, it was time to leave.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to speak your mind. Just because you are an intern doesn’t mean you don’t have great ideas! People may be hesitant to change but once they see your idea/hard work pay off it will make a world of a difference!

HR Intern

May - August 2019 • West Valley City, UT

What I liked

I was able to work under the HR business partner on my learning objectives. I worked independently to come up with proposals that I thought would be best to complete a project. Felt that my contributions were valued and the hand off for my projects when I left went smoothly.

What I wish was different

A longer internship to continue working on my projects within the company.

Advice

The one piece of advice that I would share about this experience is to take advantage of internships. It is a great way to get exposure to projects that will boost your resume and grow your network of connections.
