Public Finance Summer Analyst

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I liked that the internship coordinators were supportive of interns exploring other divisions of the firm. During my time there, I was able to speak to people in all areas of the firm.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more collaborative work between the interns.

Advice

The hours are intense! Make sure you take care of yourself.

Summer Investment Banking Analyst

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Culture (only hire as many interns as they have full-time spots, makes collaborative), technicality of the work, pay

What I wish was different

Worked around 80-90 hrs a week on average - would have been nice to have more personal time

Advice

Be over communicative to all emails; send "thank you" replies to most of what is sent to you, even if it seems awkward at first

Private Wealth Management Intern

July - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I liked being a part of the big bank industry. There is so much money moving around and so many different jobs and things happening. It was a great experience.

What I wish was different

I wish the work I was able to do was more realistic. In PWM it’s hard because interns can’t actually work with customer portfolios so a lot of the work is busy work.

Advice

Network with everyone you can. Remember names and send thank you letters to everyone you can.

Summer Analyst

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The people were remarkable.

What I wish was different

Human resources took advantage of me and only gave me two weeks to accept my offer.

Advice

Push Hopkins to negotiate better acceptance time frames. For instance, Georgetown students had 4 weeks, and I believe UPenn had even more time.

Operations Analyst

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

This internship was well structured. We did numerous events from museum trips to boat rides. The firm, in general, is a great place to work. I truly felt welcomed through their mentorship program.

What I wish was different

Numerous roles within Operation are very redundant. I do not like to perform the same task, in the same manner, every day. I wished that I also got more work, as funny as that sounds my mind was not completely preoccupied. Lastly, the environment was extremely proper and is something to note if you are a gregarious person.

Advice

I would tell a future intern that make sure you weigh out your options and do not be blinded by the name of a company. Make sure to expose yourself to a full breadth of individuals, do not limit yourself to just your team. I gained valuable relationships this summer and most were outside of my division.

Fixed Income and Commodities Sales and Trading Summer Analyst

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The knowledge and experience I gained was invaluable. Everyone I worked with was extremely nice and willing to help you succeed. I left with a network of people who continue to support me to this day.

What I wish was different

I wouldn't have changed anything about the internship, but I wish I would have had a little more financial knowledge go into the summer. That's something that I could have better prepared for.

Advice

Be prepared to work hard, but know that you will come away with so much knowledge, experience, and a large network of people.

Wealth Management Summer Analyst

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I particularly enjoyed how structured the program was and how there were numerous events bringing the entire Wealth Management Summer Analyst class together (37 students!).

What I wish was different

I truly enjoyed every experience this Summer and would not alter the program.

Advice

Someone gave me this advice this summer and it stuck with me: Put in the hours, work your butt off now, and don't leave anything undone at the end of the summer- then you can be that senior with a job offer and your feet kicked up.
