Community Garden Project Leader

January 2018 • Sapelo Island, GA

What I liked

I loved being able to work very closely with community members and being able to learn more about the Geechee way of life.

What I wish was different

Nothing, everything happened as it was supposed to I felt. I learned a lot and was able to grow immensely.

Advice

Serving a community to me means to be flexible and help out in a capacity that you didn't anticipate, especially in a location where the number of helping hands really matters.

Event Coordinator and Founder

May 2018 • Beeville, TX

What I liked

The opportunity to bring information on local Mental Health resources to my community in Beeville, TX and help stop the stigma.

What I wish was different

I want the event to be inside next year at a earlier time and with more medical professionals showing support.

Advice

Event planning is hard but harder if you do it alone. Make sure you have a committed group of people to help you organize the layout, contact partners, find sponsors, run social media, etc.

English Teacher

June - July 2018 • Hanoi, Vietnam

What I liked

I loved meeting my students, the average age was 23. All of my students were always exited to learn more English. I admire their persistence on accomplishing their goal.

What I wish was different

I wish I had stayed longer. I also wish I could have had the chance to teach intermediate and advanced level, not just beginner.

Advice

Everyone has a voice, it does not matter if a person takes longer to communicate, he/she will eventually. Be patient. Try to understand the other culture first, before teaching in the way you feel most comfortable with. I went to Viet Nam to teach English, not to talk about the English language.
