What I wish was different

I wish I had more time doing it.

Student Researcher

June - July 2018 • Totonicapán, Totonicapán Department

What I liked

I really enjoyed the oppurtunity I was given to apply the skills I learned in class to real life situations. Working along with my Professors and colleagues resulted in a closer bond and greater understanding regarding the work that the Anthropology department does.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had learned spanish, or taken spanish classes prior to traveling to Guatemala. The language barrier led to missed oppurtunites, such as making close bonds with my professor’s business partners and friends.

Advice

When I applied for this position, I never imagined that I would actually be chosen. This was partially because I could not invision myself in Guatemala, working with my professor. This experience showed that I should not doubt my capability and take chances, especially when you cannot invision youself in the situation.
