Premier Cooperative

Agronomy Intern

May 2020 • Fennimore, WI

What I liked

I really enjoyed getting so much hands-on experience. After learning how the co-op was run and getting the hang of the day-to-day schedule, I was allowed to conduct a lot of independent work. I spent many hours outside in the fields, conducting vital scouting for the co-op. I got to make many good connections with local farmers that will greatly benefit my future career. Also, I was able to dabble in many different areas, including soil sampling, tissue sampling, grower licensing, documentation, silage moisture testing, and social media outreach.

What I wish was different

I wish that the internship was a little more organized. Some days, I came into work and no one had determined where I was to go that day. While this did help me learn to make use of my initiative, somedays there was some waiting around.

Advice

Be engaged! You will only get out of this internship what you put into it. If you try hard and work to learn new things, you will be given new responsibilities. If you don't know something, ask! You have to take the initiative to make this internship rewarding for you. The work is very flexible, but no one will hold your hand. However, if you show your interest and try your hardest, you will be very pleased with what you accomplish.

Advice

Definetly get your name out there and try something new, just to see if you like it. Even if it is not something that you are going to school for but the oppertunites out there are endless.
