Animal Care Intern

August 2018 • San Bernardino, CA

What I liked

I really enjoyed at this internship that I got to interact, feed and observe exoctic animals of different species including white lions, tigers, wolves, raccoons, foxes, coyotes and much more. Many zoos you volunteer at do not allow you to go in the animals cages and interact with animals but at this internship I got the opportunity to be in the cage with a lion, coyotes, wolves and different dog species. Not many people are presented an opportunity to do something as wild as that.

What I wish was different

I honestly would not change a thing and that is why I am still doing this internship and plan to still be a part of this opportunity when the internship has ended.

Advice

If you get the opportunity to follow your passions, take it. Everything else can wait. Because I am interning here I now know what I want to do as a career and that is a zoology. Great things happen when you take risks in life, whether big or small. You have to put yourself outside of your comfort zone if you want to succeed and progress in life.

What I liked

I got very close with the children and the family, and I got to act as a "big sister" / "cool aunt" to the sweetest kids.

What I wish was different

It would've been cool to be paid more, but they did pay me more than I asked for.

Advice

If you love children and have a lot of patience, I would definitely recommend nannying. It's a lot of work but it's definitely worth it.

Algebra Tutor

September - December 2017 • Okemos, MI

What I liked

The job was easy for me to do because Math is something that I like. So teaching that was fun.

What I wish was different

More contact hours.

Advice

If teaching is something you enjoy then go ahead of it. I believe it is the best way to make your basic concepts even more stronger. Teaching others automatically makes you practice the stuff yourself. In my opinion that is something that can help you in your future classes.
