Software Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

You had the opportunity to work with really smart engineers who were really skilled in certain areas. If you needed help, someone could definitely help you and there is a lot of room to grow to diversify your skillet at QL.

What I wish was different

Nothing

Advice

Quicken loans might seem like a financial company, but really it is one of the best places to work for tech and I recommend for an internship.

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2020 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

The culture is phenomenal at Quicken Loans. Everybody treats you like a real team member, not like an intern.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been in person, that's probably the thing that comes to mind first.

Advice

Reach out to anybody, anytime. Every single person, and I mean every single person is willing to chat, or let you shadow them, or anything.

Public Relations Intern

June - August 2020 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

Due to the pandemic and everything shifting around, everyone was super flexible and able to help when needed. Everyone was experiencing something new (being remote) so there was a sense of comfortability going into the internship that we all were going to be a little confused.

What I wish was different

I am someone who needs deadlines and direction or else my head will spiral to a million other things. I wish there would have been more of a heavy "overseer" presence to ensure everything I was doing daily was correct and on task. I also really wish there could have been a way to meet everyone I was working with for the summer! It was a bummer not having that experience.

Advice

Respect any new environment you are welcomed into and never be afraid to ask questions! Changes happen forever, and when you are at the forefront, take it head-on!

Sales Analytics Intern

May - August 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

Awesome culture and a great atmosphere to work in. Friendly boss and employees. Lots of intern activities and opportunities to meet other interns and network with professionals at the company. Some opportunities for leadership!

What I wish was different

Wish there had been more on-task work to do for my internship other than creating excel sheet reports.

Advice

Know how to use excel and always ask for more work or ask questions when you have time! Summer flies and it's a great learning experience, so enjoy it!

Intern

May - August 2019 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

I loved how the internship allowed you to truly see what a career at Quicken is like. Also, super flexible. The company allows you to see what other roles within the site are like even if it’s outside the scope of your internship.

What I wish was different

I wish we were better prepared as far as expectations for the SAFE exam. We didn’t really know what to expect as far as how much studying and the level of difficulty that went into the exam. I also found ourselves to be bored every so often, so I wish our directors had more tasks or things for us to do that allowed us to expand our knowledge or get to know the company more.

Advice

The SAFE exam is no joke so be prepared! However, if you pass, it’s extremely rewarding & you’ll increase the likelihood of receiving an offer following the internship tremendously.

Human Resources Intern

What I liked

I really enjoyed the culture Quicken Loans has been able to create and maintain. People are excited to go to work and be at work. They care about their employees.

What I wish was different

I wouldn’t change anything. I really enjoyed my experience at QL.

Advice

Embrace the culture of the company. Being involved and participating in meetings made a difference in what I got from my time at QL.

Marketing Intern

May - August 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

I really loved my team and the other marketing interns. The marketing department did an incredible job to give the marketing interns an amazing experience with weekly lunch and learns, team building events, and an intern pitch competition.

What I wish was different

Wish we had done the team building activities closer to the beginning of the summer so we all got to know each other earlier on.

Advice

Put yourself out there. You will get out as much as you put in. Get yourself out of your comfort zone — meet new people, try new things, etc.

Strategy and Analytics Intern

April - September 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

I gained very valuable experience working in an area that was directly related to my major and minor (Finance and Business Analytics). I also enjoyed working downtown Detroit where there are always things to do. The experience and overall environment at Quicken was amazing and led me to accepting a full time position that I work in currently.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have spent more time during my internship shadowing the different areas of business and learning more about the whole company rather than being so focused on my particular area. With a company as large as Quicken there are so many different areas to explore and it is important to branch out and see what business area might suit you best.

Advice

Definitely shadow as many different positions as possible and expand your network of contacts you can reach out to when you are eventually looking for a full time position. Also be sure to ask a lot of questions and take notes!

Software Development Intern

May - August 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

I like the community and work environment at Quicken.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more opportunities to work on solo projects.

Advice

There are a lot of departments and companies in Quicken, so it is a good place to build a network of people with many different experiences and backgrounds.

Intern

January - March 2015 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

Fun environment, they took us on tours of Detroit and different events

What I wish was different

I didn’t get a choice in what my internship focused on.

Advice

It’s so much fun and they really try to sell you the idea, they didn’t put me with a strong leader and I felt like I wasn’t making a big impact.

Data Analyst Intern

December 2018 - August 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

QL company culture is amazing. The intern events during the summer were a lot of fun and great neyworking opportunities. You can learn alot about how to work in interdependent teams.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been smaller intern opportunities during the winter/fall. The big ones in the summer are definitely fun, but with so many people there, it can be harder to get to know your coworkers if you're not an extrovert.

Advice

Be very open to doing work that doesn't align with your degree. Shadow as many folk as possible. Don't be afraid to make the ask for an extension or an opportunity on another team.

This internship is great. My role isn't just getting coffee for everyone (although I am encouraged to get coffee for myself) and my role has a plethora of vital responsibilities.
