Software Developer Intern

May - August 2018 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

I worked with a lot of wonderful people that helped me to grow as a Software Developer. I learned a lot about the Mortgage Process as well as technologies used in industry. There were many intern events for interns to network with each other, as well as full-time employees. I had a mentor that had a big impact on my growth and desire to return next summer.

What I wish was different

Sometimes my recruiter was hard to reach when I had pertinent questions about returning next summer.

Advice

People are a huge part of your job satisfaction. People can make or break an experience, and in my experience, people made Quicken Loans my first choice when looking for a full-time job.

What I liked

QL has an environment that relies on brainstorming a better way and valuing ideas, even if they come from an intern. As an intern you will have opportunity to learn and impact the business.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been able to do part time or less days a week as a commuter. what ever your commute time, add a half hour for the shuttle you will need to take into downtown.

Advice

Make yourself the obvious choice by bringing a fresh set of eyes to QL's opportunities for growth. You can't get what you don't ask for, so ask.

Capital Markets Intern

June - August 2018 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

The Culture was amazing and the quality of experience was nice.

What I wish was different

The recruitment process wasn't the greatest for a returning intern.

Advice

Keep your network up. If I didn't have a strong network in and out of the company my summer really could've been unproductive. Also, invest in yourself and make sure you're the best option for them. If you have a strong connection group, but can't produce, then you won't make it far.

Business Analyst Intern

June - August 2018 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

The team that I worked with this summer was motivated and truly loved their job and the company they were representing. My mentor who showed me the ropes this summer was amazing and has become a close friend of mine even after the internship ended. Working downtown Detroit, which is so close to my home gave me the big city feel and there were so many cool opportunities around my office. I got to see how Quicken was making such a big difference in my community and how much good they were doing for Detroit.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could have been there longer, the experiences I gained from QL were all so helpful. I use the techniques I learned in class today and am able to carry that on into my future career.

Advice

Shadow other parts of the business, be outgoing and meet new people! Everyone from Quicken is so willing to teach and answer your questions so don't be afraid to ask!

Talent Development Intern

March 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

I've loved the entire experience overall as getting directly into the field has been invaluable to properly starting my career with an HRD degree.

What I wish was different

There was little team interaction overall, but once I realized that the interaction wasn't built into the role, I pushed outside of my comfort zone to network across my team as well as the company overall.

Advice

Pushing yourself to be comfortable being uncomfortable is incredibly valuable as well as understanding that communication is critical in order to gain the most out of the internship experience as possible.

Project Management Intern

June - August 2018 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

I enjoyed the responsibility I was given early on in my time in the company. It's a serious internship program that allowed me to draft a company wide cyber security policty with the legal department, conduct a competitive analysis and project manage a group of 7.

What I wish was different

I wished I had been a bit closer to the product in product management, althought this didn't exist at the company at the time.

Advice

I highly recommend taking a project management internship, many of the skills are applicable to product maagement and being a founder. Taking a product management internship is only rewarding at a very small startup in my expertience.

Marketing Coordinator

May - August 2017 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

My internship experience at Quicken Loans is, and always has been, AMAZING! The internship experience is different than most others. Interns at the Quicken Loans Family of Companies are treated as full-time team members. We are a Family of “flat” companies, where interns are expected to speak-up, share their ideas and opinions, and bring input to the table! The interns at the Quicken Loans Family of Companies are never asked to get coffee or make copies, they are valued as much as the full-time team members, and are looked at as the owners of the fresh-perspective.

What I wish was different

I don't think I would change anything. The entire internship program at the Quicken Loans Family of Companies is hands-on, real-life experience. It is fun and an awesome opportunity!

Advice

I would definitely recommend the Quicken Loans Family of Companies Internship Program to all of my fellow business students. Quicken Loans is ranked as one of the Top 10 Companies to work for by Forbes, and when you’re there, you are shown why that is! One piece of advice I would share with a future intern is to take advantage of the opportunity. Never be afraid to speak up - make yourself known!

What I wish was different

Greater diversity of business areas at the Scottsdale office would have been nice

Advice

Ask as many questions as you can, and make yourself indispensable.
