What I liked

My direct supervisor is incredible. Not only is she patient and kind, she's genuinely invested in the growth of her employees. Because of her support this position has provided me genuine professional development opportunities that have prepared me to enter the work force after graduating. I now feel confident in my ability to offer excellent customer service, conduct data retrieval, and make genuine contributions to any office setting I may enter.

What I wish was different

I wish we had more chances to collaborate with other Office Assistants, as we have very different approaches to the position that may be valuable for one another to hear and experience.

Advice

Familiarize yourself with all aspects of campus. As an Office Assistant, it is your job to give excellent customer service and in order to do that you must be knowledgeable about the majority of departments, academic structures, and events happening on campus.

What I liked

The job was very straightforward. If I ever had a question about how to best carry out my assigned work, staff was always helpful in assisting me. The work environment was always respectful, and I enjoyed going to work every day.

What I wish was different

Advice

While the work is not difficult, it can be tedious. If you don’t have a temperament that caters to long, quiet hours shelving and cataloging books/filling out forms, this may not be the job for you.

Sarah Lawrence Pre-College Summer Programs Assistant

What I liked

I really enjoyed staying on campus and working with other Sarah Lawrence students. I had a fair amount of time off, which was nice.

What I wish was different

I felt that the program was poorly organized. Also, the amount of work varied, so that some weeks I was struggling to get enough hours and others I was working overtime.

Advice

The most important skill for this job is flexibility!
