Shriners Children's

Occupational Therapy Intern

July 2019 • Sacramento, CA

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

I did not think that I would be accepted to intern at Shriner's because of its name and competitive nature, but I am very glad I applied. I wish I had applied sooner instead of holding back. I would advise anyone to start applying for internships and volunteer positions in the Spring whether you feel qualified or not.

Research Volunteer

July - September 2019 • Sacramento, CA

What I liked

The post-doc researchers and primary investigators were all really nice and willing to teach and mentor you, especially on new tasks.

What I wish was different

I wish they had a different person in charge of overseeing safety in the labs. She was not qualified and seems to hate science and research in general. She is also very condescending towards researchers.

Advice

Take notes on procedures and ask questions for clarification on directions. You will not be able to remember everything from memory alone.
