Through the virtual internship, the team I worked with was very accommodating, but also provided challenging tasks regularly. Portfolio Monitoring Analyst

June - August 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

Being able to participate in the intern case competition that involved all of the U.S. Bank interns across the country. I was paired with two interns at the Twin Cities office and one from the Chicago office. Working with them on Skype was a really cool experience. As for as the job itself, I really value the lessons and skills that I have learned from the internship as a whole, such as attention to detail, problem solving skills, time management, and really overall accounting processes. The people at U.S. Bank were also incredibly nice and would be more than happy to help you out with any problems you may face.

What I wish was different

More collaboration with others, variation in job duties, and the opportunity to work in teams.

Advice

To not be afraid to ask questions. There will be many things that you come across that will confuse you or make you unsure. The people at U.S. Bank are very nice and supportive and will be glad to help.

Software Developer Intern

June - August 2019 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I really enjoyed getting to work on an Agile software development team. It was a great opportunity to put into practice all the things I've learned in my computer science classes at Lake Forest. It also taught me many new skills that are necessary for working on a real software application. Being in a role where I was an active, contributing member of the development team really helped me gain confidence in my ability to write code in a professional environment.

What I wish was different

Advice

Ask lots of questions, and take lots of notes! I kept a notebook during my internship where I kept track of any questions I had, and wrote down information I learned on the job. It really helped me get up to speed quickly, and looking back on the first few pages, I can see how much I learned over the course of just two and a half months.
