Valcor Engineering

Program Management intern

January - May 2023 • Springfield, NJ

What I liked

I like the company culture, they would often host fun events for the employees. Flexible schedule in regards to projects. Many chances to learn.

What I wish was different

I wish that there were more Intern-only events. I also think that onboarding should include explanations of the entire valve production process and an explanation of the common Acronyms.

Advice

Talk to other roles in the company and learn how the production process fits together.

Design Engineering Intern

May - August 2024 • Springfield, NJ

What I liked

I loved the company culture! Everyone is extremely nice and willing to explain anything when asked. And the projects are not only incredibly interesting but are also amazing opportunities to learn so much more than one would think.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more resources readily available to research further the basics of valves, brakes, and all other aspects of Valcor's products, other than the ones provided for onboarding.

Advice

You got this! Do not be afraid to be confused. You will be for a while, but try your best to research every unfamiliar term you hear and to ask questions when Google and various textbooks won't help.

Automation and Controls Intern

May - August 2024 • Springfield, NJ

What I liked

I liked the dynamic environment and how hands-on a lot of the projects were. Along with developing my skills with softwares like DraftSight, I was given the opportunity to build upon engineering skills by making electrical composures and mechanical systems. The team and management at Valcor were very cooperative and placed a great emphasis on learning throughout this internship.

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

May - August 2024 • Springfield, NJ

What I liked

My experience at Valcor was nothing short of fantastic. The people are great, the work is engaging, and you get to make real impacts felt throughout the company. I learned more about engineering at Valcor than I did in my previous two years of education. Not to mention, they were very flexible and accommodating with my schedule, which I really appreciated and shows how they really care for their employees. I highly recommend interning here!

What I wish was different

Truthfully, Valcor did a good job running their intern program, and the Manufacturing Engineering department was great. The company is in a state of rapid growth, which meant that many of the interns did not have proper desks due to a lack of space, but were set up in conference rooms instead. Not the end of the world and it all worked out - and the company is currently constructing a second facility, so I don't think space will be an issue in the future.

Advice

Ask questions and really get to know your manager/co-workers! Everyone at Valcor was so welcoming and eager to explain new concepts if I didn't know them. Remember - the company works as a team!
