VCU Orientation and Transition Programs

Orientation Leader

June - August 2019 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

I liked that the schedule was consistent throughout the summer with only occasional changes. It was easy to make other plans around the job because I consistently knew when I would be working.

What I wish was different

I wish that communication had been better between the leadership/administrative positions and the student employees. Sometimes they would forget to tell us something or not communicate an idea clearly and we would be confused. It improved slightly over the course of the summer but could still use work.

Advice

Very fun and all of the student employees were wonderful people but time management and sleep are required to perform the job well. Even with Wednesday and weekends off, it was still averaging 50-60 hours a week so showing up not having slept well the night before is not ideal.
