Acuity Insurance

Human Resources Intern

June - September 2022 • Sheboygan, WI

What I liked

Acuity cares about their employees. From my first day on, I felt incredibly welcomed. My team was great to work with, I was free to steer my learning, and I got exposure to many different areas of HR.

What I wish was different

N/A

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask the same question twice. Fail by action. I took on everything that was asked of me, even if I wasn't "fully prepared."

Commercial Underwriter

June 2022 • Sheboygan, WI

What I liked

Acuity's culture is unbelievable. I felt so welcomed and valued walking in on my first day and continue to feel that now. Spend a few weeks here, and you'll understand why turnover is so low. Some of the perks we enjoy include free breakfast, lunch, and dinner every Wednesday, an indoor ferris wheel, a rock-climbing wall, and beautiful grounds to walk during lunch. The training program is thorough, the people are friendly, and the work is meaningful. It's obvious that the executives care deeply for employees, and I wouldn't want to work anywhere else.

What I wish was different

I have no complaints.

Advice

Take advantage of all the opportunities to speak to managers, GMs, and coworkers with more experience. Doing so has allowed me to gather an abundance of useful information to apply to my work.

Business Systems Analyst

May 2019 • Sheboygan, WI

What I liked

Becoming a business systems analyst for the data team is something that I had little to no experience in. When I first arrived at Acuity, everyone had open arms in welcoming me and teaching me everything I needed to know. I had two mentors assigned to me and they could not have helped me more. The managers were also really supportive and really valued friendship and getting to know everyone in your team/department. Another thing that I liked was that the company made you do actual analyst tasks like running your own meetings and analyzing data. Finally, the building is amazing. The building has a Ferris wheel, full gym, cafeteria, 40-foot rock wall, and the world's tallest symbol of freedom. Overall, Acuity is an amazing place to work that offers many opportunities for one to grow.

What I wish was different

Honestly, I would not want to change anything. As crazy as it seems, there is next to nothing wrong working at Acuity.

Advice

My one piece of advice would be to ask as many questions as you can. You have an internship because you want to learn and get the experience. If you do not know how to do something, it is okay to ask for help, but I would advise to try it on your own first.

Programming Intern

June - August 2019 • Sheboygan, WI

What I liked

Acuity is a great company that truly values its employees. They spent time training all of the interns which helped prepare us for the remainder of the internship. For the rest of the internship, we worked collectively as a group on a project with mentors. The worked on something that will actually be used, so it was awesome to have the satisfaction of working on something that was meaningful.

What I wish was different

I wish I had taken the opportunity to branch out more and meet different people in the company.

Programming Intern

June - August 2018 • Sheboygan, WI

What I liked

Very comfortable work environment, good group of interns to work with, I liked the projects we worked on

What I wish was different

Would've liked to work with a wider variety of people, mostly spoke to the same 1-2 people every day beyond the usual group of interns

Advice

Be ready to learn on the job, they provide lots of training before you start the real work. Also don't be afraid to ask questions because the internship experience is constantly changing and adjusting
