What I liked

The atmosphere was amazing. Working outside was a plus

Sometimes you have to spray at night and you get done late.

Department of Motor Vehicle Clerk

June - July 2018 • Brighton, CO

What I liked

I liked my co-workers the best. People would always say, "the DMV? That must have been fun." It was fun, and not because of the actually work, but because of the people. I learned that, like in most of life, you job is what you make of it. You can make it fun and enjoyable, or you can make it boring and uninteresting. It's a choice to make it a pleasant environment.

What I wish was different

I wish that there were more physically active tasks for me to accomplish. Sitting at a desk isn't necessarily my forte.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is to network through whatever job experience you are in. Working at the DMV is not necessarily beneficial to my path towards medical school, but I do now know people who gave me great career advice. You sometimes don't know the purpose of where you are until after you've left the position.

Summer Intern

June - August 2018 • Natchez, MS

What I liked

I enjoyed being able to work and learn the ins and outs of government in my own community. I’m from Adams County so I am famailiar with the area and most of the co-workers I had.

What I wish was different

I wish my experience could have lasted a bit longer up until I came back to school.

Advice

I would advise anyone who shall apply for the intern position in the future to always be mindful of your attire and the way you speak. During the internship, you will work with many other departments and staff members who are constantly evaluating you without your knowledge. Dress professionally, yet comfortably, and just make sure to speak clearly and cheerfully.
