What I liked

I worked outside in the beautiful Tongass National Rainforest, I couldn't believe that my office consisted of some of America's most beautiful treasures with the Mendenhall Glacier and surrounding mountains. I enjoyed making connections with guests every day and sharing the beauty of the Glacier and the exciting adventure of the paddle there and back. I gained considerable leadership and orating abilities and loved getting to experience Juneau, Alaska and the uniqueness of both the geographical and cultural features of the area.

What I wish was different

The lack of a vehicle this summer was very trying but the managers would help work with you to set up carpooling to work, grocery store runs and such.

Advice

You have to be prepared to work and work hard. This is a fast paced job where decision making, adaptability and communication skills are a must. All that being said, the people, the landscape and the job itself was a reward for the hard work you put in.

If you’re scared to take a job somewhere else, you should take an internship somewhere because it’s not permanent.

What I liked

I liked the opportunity to travel outside of California to a new place I had never been. I got to meet people from around the world and work with amazing cruise line employees. I made unique friendships that will last a lifetime.
