Albemarle County

Intern for the Office of Equity and Inclusion

January - August 2019 • Charlottesville, VA

What I liked

My boss was an intelligent, hardworking, and passionate woman, who was incredibly dedicated to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects. She was both a boss and a mentor to me, and helped me grow and learn both professionally and personally.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had more time in this position (but had to leave for school abroad).

Advice

Of the many, many things I learned through this internship and doing this type of work, a significant lesson that I took away is how to meet people where they are (especially in a local government setting), and then put in the effort to move forward and make progress. Always self reflect, and never forget the cause.
