Behavioral Health Intern

May 2020 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

This internship has been a fantastic learning opportunity. I loved working with the clients at Amethyst which is a treatment and recovery program for women. My supervisor was extremely accessible and answered all of my questions. I facilitated a weekly mental health group therapy session and observed at least 12 hours per wk of other session.

What I wish was different

I would have liked to have been able to observe more assessments, but COVID made that difficult.

Advice

Advocate for yourself. If there is something you want to learn about, ask how you can get the experience.

Intern

June - August 2019 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

Laid-back environment, friendly coworkers, decent amount of freedom and variety of work.

What I wish was different

I wish I hadn’t been the only intern at my particular location (there were other interns elsewhere in the organization).

Advice

Working an unpaid internship sometimes isn’t possible for everyone but it can be good experience.

case management intern

June - August 2018 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed the hands on aspect of the experience. Having the ability to activitly participate allowed me to learn faster and more efficiently.

What I wish was different

I wish there would have been more of a push towards other opportunities and tasks that I could have been a part of.

Advice

I would tell others to try out a new internship. Specifically in a field that is not necessarily what you want to do, but could be a learning experience, becuse it benefits you tremendously.
