Robotics Processing Automation Intern

June 2019 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

I liked many aspects of the internship from learning new technical and professional experiences to networking with other interns and full-time colleagues. Also, the work culture at American Fidelity is great with numerous rewards and treats for the employees.

What I wish was different

I wished the orientation process would be more streamlined. It was kinda haphazardly at first but eventually, it got better.

Advice

Don't stress too much about the first week or even the first month. Since it is my first internship, I spent too much time and effort about overthinking small things that did not matter. Internships are a new and sometimes, overwhelming experience so you have to adjust first before you can feel comfortable.

Operations Intern

May 2020 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

Coworkers are very supportive and feel very approachable. My supervisors and management team are also awesome to work with, they make working there easy. It is also nice to be part of a paid internship, and getting to work in different divisions of operations feels like very good experience. The ability to set my own hours was very nice as well.

What I wish was different

Depending on the team you get, day to day activities can flex between the extremes of almost nothing to do, or very busy, so you always have to be ready for both.

Advice

This biggest piece of advice that I can think of is that don't give up hope if they don't respond in the first couple of weeks. The initial touchback can take awhile sometimes, but it moves pretty fast after that. Also, if you provide references they will be called, so make sure to think those through!

Customer Engagement Intern

May 2019 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

I like the people at American Fidelity. This company is full of some of the friendliest people I've ever met. American Fidelity is such an inclusive and amazing company to work for. I hope to acquire a full time position when I graduate.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish was different is the amount of hours I can work. We can only work up to 20 hours a week as an intern. I wish we were able to work more so that we can make more money if we want.

Advice

To anyone who is ever hired onto American Fidelity, I encourage you to test the waters. Try to train in various departments when you get the opportunity. I have been able to train in the billing department, and I can't wait to move into auditing at some point to job shadow. This company is all about helping you find what you are passionate about.

Business Continuity Intern - Salesforce Administrator

November 2018 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

The company is so willing and open to let you meet and talk to whoever. I reached out to the LEAN (Strategy/Quality Management) team and have been mentored one-on-one by green/black belts. If you intern here I encourage you to do the same! I've met with VP's of several departments(Robotics/Automation, Project Management, Marketing), just talking about what they do and learning about their section of the industry. People here want to see you succeed and grow! The gym is available if you are a paid intern. Maybe I'm biased because my team and my managers are so flexible, but I feel like I get the freedom to grow as a business leader without any hindrances. AF is flexible with school schedules, as long as you can work close to 15 hours a week.

What I wish was different

I'm at the lower end of the pay for AF interns, so I wish I received a little bit higher pay. However, even the lowest offers are higher than a lot of the Oklahoma/Texas market for internships. AFA has so many benefits for their full-time employees that eventually you want to be a part of those benefits too, but you can't as an intern. (Health clinic on site, extensive paid volunteer time, etc.)

Advice

Be open, and take on challenges/opportunities willingly. Look for potential solutions, and offer to work extra to make those things happen if you can. Make lists of everything you're working on. It makes it easier if you're asked to do an internship presentation, or when your boss goes "So what are you working on?"

Sales intern

May 2018 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

The internship gave me a great introduction into the corporate world, as well as introducing me to sales. Once I shadowed the sales field, I knew I wanted to stick to sales in the future.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have shadowed more in the field. I was able to shadow in 3 different states on 5 occasions, but a little more would have been nice.

Advice

My biggest piece of advice when it comes to this experience is to do the best you can to learn as much as you can. There was so much valuable information that I took from this experience, and it takes an effort to learn it all. But very much worth it.
