Business Development Intern

May - August 2019 • Port Washington, WI

What I liked

I enjoyed getting office experience and learning how to interact with professionals in the field. I developed skills with organization, cold-calling, and improvising on the spot. I also gained knowledge about the insurance industry, which is an under-appreciated industry in my opinion.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had more time in each department. Part of my internship entailed me rotating through each different department (Employee Benefits, Commercial Lines, and Personal Lines). I wish that I had the opportunity to work in each department more in order to expand my knowledge of insurance. I also wish that I could have gone on more company tours and meetings with agents and clients.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to not be afraid to ask questions. Insurance is very complicated and confusing, and asking many questions is key to getting a better understanding of how insurance works.

Sales intern

June - August 2019 • Port Washington, WI

What I liked

Throughout my internship I came across a bunch of inspirational people. The personal connection that every person was trying to build with me made it very easy for me to feel welcome.

What I wish was different

The thing that I feel would’ve helped my internship experience would be to always be doing something different. Over time the tasks that we were asked of us seemed repetitive. As a intern I felt like I wasn’t shown more of the business.

Advice

The one piece of advice that I would share to anyone that has the opportunity that I had would be to make the most of it. It doesn’t seem like it, but the internship went by fast. Learn and push yourself to try to accomplish more.
