A fast-paced, diverse job that opens numerous opportunities to learn more about the campus and staff at Sam Houston State University. Managers are very understanding and flexible towards students.

What I wish was different

Very early mornings and late nights can make for long workdays.

Advice

Get to know people in every branch of Aramark, from the cooks to the servers to the dishwashers. It makes a difference having people you can trust to step in when you are in a bind or need help. The people working here are amazing and truly care about the employees who get engaged with the team.

I liked being able to meet new people and experience the high energy of working in a baseball stadium during the summer.

I wish that I had been able to work there longer than just 2 months and that I had been able to get more hours than what I was scheduled.

Advice

I would say that it is beneficial to make friends with you co-workers because it can be helpful during intense/stressful shifts.

Concessions Supervisor at PNC Park

What I liked

I enjoyed the fast paced environment, being on my feet for most of the time and having the ability to do more then just run a concessions stand. I had the opportunity to do the finances, integrate sales in my role, problem solve, and resolve customer issues. Overall, I couldn't ask for a better team of fellow supervisors and stand leaders.

What I wish was different

At times, we were understaffed which became an issue during heavily populated pirates games. I wish Aramark hired more employees not only as supervisors, stand leaders, cashiers, and cooks but also in other departments such as IT, and the Warehouse.

Advice

As a supervisor, communication is CRUCIAL to the success of your job. You will be faced with up to 10 tasks at a time. Take notes, stay off your phone, and listen to your boss, your co-workers, and those that work below you. If you can communicate effectively and efficiently, you will do well at this position.

The job was laid out really nice and all tasks were explained well. The business side of everything was also explained which was really cool.

Sometimes work was the same thing every day. Or the work was only a one day task that I was given a week for. There wasnt too many hard working days.

Just get your work done and move on to the next project.

What I liked

I can easily work at a Starbucks off campus. What I LOVE is I can work till 15 minutes before my class and get there on time. Also, you work with college students so everyone relates to you, people cover your shift, and an amazing way to meet students on campus.

What I wish was different

Better pay. I went from 13/hour to 8/hour

Advice

When you make your availability put two days aside for school work. Just pick your homework day and a social day. It’s easy to not be good at time managing and this’ll help with getting behind in school or feeling overwhelmed.
