Chemical Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • Texas City, TX

What I liked

I was given many different projects and the freedom to lead them as I wanted. I was treated like an entry level engineer, and got to experience many different aspects of working in a chemical plant.

What I wish was different

Honestly, not that much. I loved my experience. I would have liked for my projects and contact persons to have matched up a little better, as it was sometimes unclear what the project actually was dealing with.

Advice

When working in a plant environment for the first time, it can definitely be overwhelming. The best advice I can say is to not be afraid to ask questions, even if they're simple or sound silly to you. Chances are, almost everyone has asked it before and will be more than willing to help you out. Also, talk to the operators! They know way more about the processes than you, and are very useful!
