Patient Care Tech

What I liked
It is a great position to have during nursing school, you get to interact with people and learn how to care for them. Lots of the job is helping patients in basic daily tasks, obtaining vital signs, and aiding the nurse with their tasks.
What I wish was different
This is an interesting time to get into the healthcare field. The whole pandemic has caused some concern within the hospital. Many times it becomes difficult to know what the policy changes are, and what measures to take to prevent contracting the virus. They have improved this by sending out daily emails that list any changes if they are made, and reminding current policies as they exist.
Advice
Be flexible, I started working in the neurology floor and learned what med/surg care is like with stroke patients. I thought that I would stay in this spot, but when an understaffed ER pulled me to meet minimum requirements, I found the place where I wanted to stay. It is fast paced and hectic, but its so great to be part of the first interaction of people encountering possibly the worst day of their lives. We are able to help change the situation with our interventions, and help them to a speedy recovery.
Flexibility to follow direction wherever sent is essential in any job.
