Front Desk Receptionist

May - July 2019 • Fort Collins, CO

What I liked

I loved being able to use my bilingual skills to interact and translate for families during the summer camp program. I enjoyed being the first face that everyone saw and always having an interaction with every single person that stepped foot inside the school, whether they had inquiries for BASE Camp or not. I enjoyed working with a diverse staff of individuals, as well as networking and getting to know so many other members of the community that I work so closely with.

What I wish was different

One thing that I was would have been different was that I had more duties or tasks to uphold. Often, I would find myself finishing all my tasks before the day was done and I was left with nothing to do for the remainder of my hours there. With that being said, I conducted the same tasks almost everyday and it began to get a bit tedious.

Advice

Summer jobs are amazing. Although they are only for a couple of months and you are often not compensated as much as you wish, they definitely provide a lot of great experience. Not only that, the biggest item I took away from this experience was the networks that I created and the connections that I now have with me. I truly recommend getting summer job or internship in a field that you see yourself in in the future, as it can open doors to possible future opportunities.

Program Lead

February 2015 • Fort Collins, CO

What I liked

Flexible hours while in school, encouragement to pursue next position up, training and professional development paid for, networking

What I wish was different

Administration hasn’t been very supportive and there is a lot of miscommunication between office and site staff.

Advice

Only work here if you truly want to pursue a career with children. These children need passionate adults that want to be a part of their lives for a while, not someone looking for a “chill” job.
