Bayer Becker

Civil Engineering Co-op

May 2022 • Fort Mitchell, KY

What I liked

I have really enjoyed my time at Bayer Becker so far. As I finish my first work term there, I have already made so many meaningful relationships within the office, and I have learned so much from everyone. I came in with no experience working in civil engineering, but they gave me meaningful work to do from the very first day. I like how every day holds something new, with opportunities to go out in the field on one of the survey crews just to get a better idea of how Bayer Becker can take a client's idea and make it come into fruition. Bayer Becker truly has all of the advantages of a big engineering firm such as technology, continuous learning, and employee activities while still maintaining the small, personal vibe.

What I wish was different

I do not wish anything to be different. The co-op has been challenging at times while learning new things, but I have always felt like the office was there to support me. The team at Bayer Becker really strives to give the co-op's and new-hires every resource they have to help them become better engineer's. The team makes coming to work fun, and you look forward to it everyday.

Advice

Be ready to work and really apply what you have learned so far. Bayer Becker does a great job at keeping people busy, but not overworking them. I have never felt like the work I am doing is "busy-work", but I am always doing something meaningful which I love. The team is never more than a shout away to help you with anything, and it really helps you understand everything you have learned in school.

During my time at Bayer Becker I got plenty of design experience. The engineers I worked with all were very friendly and went out of their way to answer my questions and help me through the design process. I was given responsibilities on my first day and got to work on many different projects. I felt like I was making a difference.

What I wish was different

I enjoyed my time at Bayer Becker and have no complaints.

I liked how well-rounded the co-op position was. I learned a lot of different marketing skills that I could grow upon in the future. The company culture was great, and I felt like a real member of the team. Everyone was willing to help if I ever needed something.

What I wish was different

I don't wish anything had been different, it was such a great experience I did it twice! :)

Advice

My advice to anyone taking this position is to not be afraid to try new things and to put in the effort to whatever is asked of you. It's a great experience if you make it one.

Marketing Intern

August - December 2020 • Fort Mitchell, KY

What I liked

The BB culture is definitely one of the greatest aspects of working here. The knowledge and experience I gained from the two semesters being here, is unmatchable. I have grown so much as an individual and student here, I would refer a friend to BB any day!

What I wish was different

NOTHING! The office environment is fun and upbeat and the work is always changing and keeping you on your toes.

Advice

Don't be afraid to learn new things! Another great thing about Bayer Becker is they give you just about full rein when working on projects which really leaves so much opportunity to learn and grow throughout the semester.

Advice

This position really helped me grow in the Civil Engineering field and made me a much better engineer. If you get this position you are given every opportunity to learn and experience different things so take advantage of the opportunity and great people you work with to learn the most you can at Bayer Becker.

Marketing Co-op

June - August 2020 • Fort Mitchell, KY

What I liked

It was a great experience. I was able to explore so many new fields and really dive into things that interested me. I had a great balance of creative freedom and guidance that allowed me to feel both responsible and supervised.

What I wish was different

The offices are a little drab and the hours are difficult to adjust to at first, but they don't take away from the overall experience at all.

Advice

Really take the opportunity to explore. They allow you to use some time to learn new skills and programs and then apply them to your work. You can really learn a lot of you take the opportunities.

Civil Engineering Co-op

May - August 2019 • Fort Mitchell, KY

What I liked

The sense of community was great. Everyone at the office was extremely welcoming and was always there to help. I felt like I could ask questions whenever I needed. The office felt like a family. Also, I was able to work on a variety of projects.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been able to check out different job sites more often.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. A lot of the stuff that I worked on was the first time I had ever done it so it is normal to not know how to do everything right away. The people there are always there to help you.

Marketing Co-Op

May - August 2019 • Fort Mitchell, KY

What I liked

I loved working with the marketing manager, having my ideas and opinions valued and heard, and feeling like a member of the team just like everyone else almost immediately. Everyone was very friendly, always willing to help, and I learned so much more than I ever thought I could in just one summer!

What I wish was different

I wish there had been a little more sense of community between the different offices, and generally just a bit more organization when it came to smaller projects and weekly tasks.

Advice

Be open to trying anything and everything thrown your way, even if you have never done it before.

Marketing Co-op

May - August 2016 • South Fort Mitchell, KY

What I liked

I loved working with my supervisor and getting the opportunity to try a lot of different things. Bayer Becker gave me a chance to list what I was interested in and wanted to try while I was co-oping which gave me a wide range of opportunities and helped me figure out what I wanted to do and what I didn't want to do when I graduated. I also really liked the company culture and the employees and teams I got to interact with.

What I wish was different

Other than it being a far drive for me, I have nothing but good things to say about my co-op at Bayer Becker!

Advice

Ask to try things you've never worked on before! Co-ops are a time to figure out the things you like and don't like to do and Bayer Becker will give you a wide range of opportunities to grow you as an employee. Also, jump into the extra outings and activities they put on and network with people from other offices and departments!

Civil Engineering Intern

May 2015 - January 2019 • Fort Mitchell, KY

What I liked

Everyone was very inclusive and made me feel like a welcomed member of the team. Co-workers build good relationships and care for each other while working together. It is an overall great culture to learn the many aspects of land surveying, civil engineering, and marketing.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had insisted on going out onsite to projects more. I like the idea of seeing what is out onsite before trying to visualize how to design the project. Every project is different and there is no designing the project the same way that you had in the past.

Advice

As an intern, when asked to do something that you haven't done before or you aren't experienced at, embrace and accept the challenge. Everyone at Bayer Becker has a team-oriented mentality and, even if you don't know how to do something, there is always someone in the office that has expertise on the subject and is more than willing to help.

Transportation Engineer

January 2019 • Mason, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed the atmosphere of the office, everyone is very nice and helpful when you have questions about software or anything really. My supervisor was always very responsive and would allow me to take off certain days due if I needed to. I was able to work on some really cool and interesting projects and they allowed me to try things I have never done before at my other coop.

What I wish was different

I have had nothing but good experiences at Bayer Becker.

Advice

One piece of advise would be to ask questions and try things you've never done before. When I started I had never used Autocad or Civiil3D and they helped teach me a bunch about the software and its capabilities in Civil engineering.

What I liked

Everyone there was very kind, and it felt like you were a part of a family AMAZING supervisor that helped to provide opportunities for growth A lot of hands on experience and flexibility There was always something to be doing. It was a great role for a self starter looking for more opportunities Snacks in the kitchen!

What I wish was different

The office was quiet at times (sometimes it helped me focus more though) I wish I would have taken on more projects and tasks from the get-go

Advice

I grew a lot from this role. If you do get this role, really put your all into it. All experiences are what you make of them! It was also really cool to be apart of shaping the community. Great experience!
