About Biltmore

Biltmore is a National Historic Landmark and a privately owned, profitable, working estate that draws 1.5 million visitors annually to our Biltmore House & Gardens, Antler Hill Village & Winery, estate lodging, restaurants, shops, equestrian and hiking trails, and historic barns, farms, and fields.

Biltmore House was constructed over a six-year period, was completed in 1895, and contains over four acres of floor space, including 35 bedrooms, 43 bathrooms and 65 fireplaces. It was opened to the public in 1930.

More than a century ago when George Vanderbilt first visited the land that would become Biltmore Estate, he found a landscape that was largely worn out from repeated removal of the best trees, excessive grazing and cropping, and erosion. Frederick Law Olmsted, the nation’s pre-eminent landscape architect, convinced Vanderbilt that the land could be restored through scientific forestry and cutting-edge agricultural practices. With Olmsted’s strategic guidance, Vanderbilt developed a plan to restore the land, plant the millions of trees seen today, and put into effect an extraordinary and unprecedented experiment in forestry, agriculture, and horticulture. This led to the restoration of more than 100,000 acres of forest and habitat that established one of the first national forests in the eastern U.S.—the Pisgah National Forest.

Today, we continue this legacy of preserving the land and protecting the environment. Our Biltmore Grown Program focuses on producing the best, freshest foods for our estate restaurants. We also purchase locally sourced food from Western North Carolina farmers. We implement dozens of responsible, bio-friendly programs to support sustainability across the estate.

Guests may enjoy a range of historic tours and outdoor activities on the estate's 8,000 acres; dining at one of the 6 full-service restaurants; and shopping at numerous retail locations.

Our two hotel properties are -
The Inn on Biltmore Estate, a four-star, 210-room hotel offering world-class service, & The Village Hotel in Antler Hill Village, featuring hospitality in surroundings inspired by the estate's farm houses.

Our Biltmore Winery is the most visited winery in the United States. Our portfolio includes over 50 wines, and the Winery team welcomes over 600,000 guests each year and produces an average of 150,000 cases annually. All guests are offered complimentary wine tasting.

“I loved the community of the employees, they all know each other and are friendly and easy to work along with. The employees were welcoming to new employees and were open to helping me learn my way around the estate and the job, the employees made it an work environment that I enjoyed going to daily. I enjoyed the company itself as it was daunting to work for a larger employer than I was used to, they were welcoming and answered all of my questions and made the hiring and moving process easy. ”
