Black Hills Energy

About Black Hills Energy

Our history starts in the Black Hills, supplying electricity to Deadwood when it was a rough-and-tumble gold mining town, back in the days of Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok. We've been in business more than 135 years and are based in Rapid City, South Dakota. We have over 2900 employees across eight states (South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Arkansas).

We are devoted to our communities. Each year, our team members donate thousands of dollars and hours to local organizations. We’re mentoring in schools, organizing fundraisers, coaching youth soccer, and serving on nonprofit boards because we care about our neighbors.

We provide challenging, exciting work that makes a profound difference in the lives of others. Our diverse culture sparks unique perspectives, opening doors to new ideas and possibilities. We also created ASPIRE, our women’s leadership initiative, to recruit, retain, develop and promote qualified, high-potential women company-wide.

Engineering Intern

May 2018 - August 2018 Papillion, NE
“The work environment and the people really made the experience enjoyable. I also really enjoyed the design work and learning about the gas industry. The gas engineering team was super helpful answering any questions I had about various projects and about the industry in general. The Intern Week Program was also a neat experience where all the interns gathered in the corporate headquarters in Rapid City, SD and learned more about the company and the projects other interns were tasked with.”
