BYU Staff and Administrative

BYU Sports Camp Counselor

June - August 2021 • Provo, UT

What I liked

It didn’t feel like work. All 3 meals are provided. Doable with summer classes. Sometimes you only work 3 days a week, but are paid the same. Got to go to splash summit every week.

What I wish was different

I wish we had more control over which camps we received.

Advice

Have games ready for when kids don’t have practice.

Building Custodian

April - October 2019 • Provo, UT

What I liked

I liked the boss I had, he was always very understanding and he tried to make sure that we were able to get our jobs done. I liked the people that I got to know; they were amazing and still my friends now.

What I wish was different

I wish that when I started people had been more willing to explain procedures. I felt like some of the people I worked with at the start really didn't want me around.

Advice

If there is something wrong, always make sure to tell somebody about it. Don't just ignore problems, whether they are job related or personal problems.

Building Custodian

May - July 2019 • Provo, UT

What I liked

Contributing in a direct and impactful way to my community. Even though custodial work often goes unnoticed this line of work makes a measurable difference all around.

What I wish was different

I only wish that I could have done more to make my co-workers lives better. I loved making jokes and I did try to make the workspace fun but our opportunity at work to bless lives cannot be overstated.

Advice

Everyone needs to work a “thankless” job in their lives. A job that may go overlooked and feel bottom of totem pole, but demands within a resilient grit to form strong character. When the public eye is often blind to your role, it requires a strength to clock in and clock out on your own accord and that power paves way to great success and an inner peace.
