California Department of Justice

Press Intern

May - August 2018 • Sacramento, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed the opportunity to work with and meet attorneys in the California Department of Justice who were able to give me great advice and provide me with something to aspire to. I am also grateful to have had the opportunity to write press releases for the office.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have had more opportunity to have written press releases. I also would have enjoyed having more ongoing projects. Many times I just sat at my desk reading the news because there was nothing for me to do.

Advice

I wish I would have been more direct about my interests, because perhaps I would have been able to write more press releases in areas I was interested in such as gun violence prevention .

What I liked

I liked the freedom my supervisor gave me in her tasks such as helping in the reorganization of multiple bureaus by keeping inventory of all transferred assets including computers, file cabinets, software licensing, and regular office supplies.

What I wish was different

I wished there would have been more to do. Some of the works was tedious and not too entertaining.

Advice

If you are as lucky as I am with the boss that I had, it is an excellent experience. Some of my coworkers, however, dreaded their times in the other bureaus, as they were less fortunate.
