Camp Androscoggin

Tennis/Bunk Counselor

June - August 2021 • Wayne, ME

What I liked

After attending Andro for 7 years as a camper, I worked as a counselor for 2 summers. If you think the campers are having fun, I can guarantee the staff is having even more. Whether you are familiar with Maine or its your first time, you'll have plenty of opportunities to explore and see everything the beautiful state has to offer. Being a counselor is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling (and yes, tiring) jobs I'll ever have, and the relationships I've formed with my campers are meaningful and long-lasting. Andro has a long, wonderful history and it's one of the greatest honors of my life to be part of it.

What I wish was different

Camp should be longer.

Advice

Spend time meeting all the counselors during orientation week, even those who coach different activities and have different age groups! Also, the senior staff is best of the best and you should feel comfortable going to them with anything.

Tennis/Bunk Counselor

What I liked

While this may come off like an ordinary summer camp on the surface, once you arrive, you instantly see and feel like it's the opposite. The people here come from all different backgrounds and you instantly feel like you are part of a family. There is a reason why counselors return for multiple summers. Working with kids on something I was passionate about and being a role model for them was a unique experience. I was able to develop valuable communication and leadership skills throughout the entire 8 weeks.

Advice

Since you are working directly with kids (ranging from 8-15) it can be difficult to manage at times. However, there is a great support system in place that will provide resources for you and any concerns/questions you may have. Also, living with younger kids is an adjustment but by the end of the summer, you will have developed meaningful relationships and memories with the kids. For this type of work, you get out of it what you put into it.

Counselor

June - August 2022 • Wayne, ME

What I liked

Camp Androscoggin is one of the best place I have ever been to. As a camper, and a counselor, it has made me some of the closest friends and campers that I have made. Every day is organized, and well respected to everyone.

What I wish was different

I hope that there were more counselors who were there. The more counselors, the better it is. Despite this, the staff was great together.

Advice

It may seem difficult at first, but the help given by the other staff is great. We are all here for each other if help is needed.

Swim/Bunk Counselor

June 2022 - August 2023 • Wayne, ME

What I liked

Camp Andro is a wonderful place to spend the summer. It is right on a beautiful large lake and working with all the campers (8-15 years old) is very rewarding as a younger employee. You will also form lasting connections with your fellow camp counselors once the summer ends.

Advice

You will be busy and are on duty the majority of your time at camp. Working with kids is tough but you will form great bonds with your campers and make many people's summers more enjoyable.
