Camp Coun

July - September 2019 • Silverdale, WA

What I liked

The job itself was very fun as it involved taking care of dogs. I got to hang out with dogs all day long and make sure they're having a good time.

What I wish was different

I wish the training and regulations had been more clear. Some people were told different techniques depending on which manager/lead trained them.

Advice

I learned to not be afraid of pointing things out to higher ups that I felt were going unnoticed. Managers appreciate when you step up a little bit.

Camp Bow Wow Counselor

May 2019 • Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

I enjoyed being around dogs every day at work as well as the environment. I also really like my coworkers and I learned a lot from them. My superiors are very kind and considerate and I enjoy spending time with them.

What I wish was different

I wish that the yard time would have been more spread out as well as a designated time for lunch and a break. I also wish that the interview process for new dogs would be more extensive and in-depth in order to really get to know the new camper and if they are a good fit.

Advice

Patience is very important at a job like this - one that involves spending an extended amount of time with high energy dogs that don't always behave. It is also important to keep in mind that the other workers are feeling the same way, and that everyone gets stressed and they need support too.
