What I liked

As someone who was nervous about working with and being responsible for children, this job worked out really well for me. It was an incredible experience and very enlightening. You learn many skills, including how to deal with and resolve conflicts, quick thinking when plans go awry, and good communication amongst your fellow counselors.

What I wish was different

Honestly, not too much! There were instances where bonding with other counselors was somewhat difficult, but only due to the fact that there was a lot of coming and going due to different events happening in peoples' lives. However, this taught me intentionality in relationship. If you want to be close with those you work with, you must put the time in to talk to them.

Advice

Y'all, go out there and try new things. If it sounds somewhat uncomfortable or you're worried about not knowing what to expect, you should probably try it. This summer camp was located three states from my home and entirely populated by strangers. Yet, I have made lifelong friends and had unforgettable experiences that I would never have had if I did not take a chance. Take the risks. Brave your uncertainty. Overcome your worries. If it was easy, it wouldn't be worth doing. You might love it, but you'll never know until you put your foot forward and take a chance.
