I loved my life in Camphill! I learned so much about food, community, conflict resolution, teamwork, disability, and baking! Everyone was so lovely and it felt like I was building a family with folks. I am still in touch with people living there and love making new friends with the volunteers that come!
What I wish was different
I think it was the right time for me to be there and I wouldn't change a thing. I was given opportunities to grow professionally but ultimately left to pursue my career in business.
Advice
Go with an open mind and heart, be ready to dive deep in your relationships, and have a mindfulness practice. It's easy to get swept up in the hive mind and forget to take care of your own needs. Ask for help and space when you notice you need it- you have to advocate for yourself- the people around you aren't mind readers. Ultimately, you are there for a service year so be ready to give a lot and in return, you will receive a lot. The world is really individualistic and this is an opportunity to lean into community. Having space held for you, holding space for others, and growing together is a really magical thing!
