I liked the exposure to the Medical-Device industry and corporate world. I was given autonomy to creatively work on my projects. I also was allowed to be in the office, which helped me gain the environmental aspect. I liked how I got to have office-based relationships with my co-workers and how I was able to learn about workforce trends using actual data.
What I wish was different
There was about 15 other interns that were also working at CSI over the summer. We didn't really get to hang out until the company picnic, which was during the last week of our internships. It would have been great to establish relationships with the other interns sooner to build those relationships over the summer.
Advice
As a math major, I had a lot of uncertainty surrounding what I wanted to do with my future. I applied to a variety of "analyst" internships. I really enjoyed working with data in HR because it directly impacts how the company performs, and has a lot more meaningful work involved than I initially thought. My advice would be to give yourself the opportunity to try many things to figure out what you like and what you don't. Although I do not plan on working in HR in the long run, I was able to establish connections with other employees in career areas I was more interested in.
